Their neice, Jean Scriven writes, \"There is a bit of a story attached to the photo of James as this photo arrived home 2 weeks after the Barham was sunk. James had enclosed a letter with the photograph explaining that Captain Cooke was fed up of mistaking them for each other and so he had asked one of them to grow a moustache. William had decided to be the one to grow the moustache and James had sent the letter and photo home but William was killed before he could grow the moustache and send a photo home of him with it.\"
