Dad volunteered to join the Navy early in the war. He was trained at HMS Ganges in Cornwall then went to the Barham. After the sinking and some R&R, he served on the battleship HMS Anson, and also on destroyers during the Russian convoys. A neighbour saw a programme on TV in the early 60s about the Association and Dad joined straightaway. Dad, Mum and I used to go the Remembrance Service. Dad (and occasionally, my Mum) went to all the reunions until he died.
Les Ratcliffe added: My Dad Albert Ratcliffe and Annie my Mother were shipmates and friends of Dave and Violet and used to meet and attend the reunions. Both parents have passed away. Alan please contact me on 07711853103 oe lratclif@jaguarlandrover.com |
