Harry Dooling |
Delighted to find this site Sara. We live in a very small hamlet in Staffordshire, next to St Leonards Church. Right at the entrance gate, overlooking the Trent Valley, is the prominent and quite grand grave of Harry Dooling, Stoker 2nd Class, aged 18 when he died on the Barham, in November 1941. The church, although infrequently used, is visited by many people and with your permission I will put some information about Barham, from your site, in the Church. Regards, Chris Windley ( ex WEO, Royal Navy ) |

MY LATE FATHER, BOB MOUNCER, SERVED ON THE "BARHAM" AND WAS ALSO A SURVIVOR. IT WAS OBVIOUSLY A VERY TRAUMATIC AND EMOTIONAL TIME FOR ALL THE MEN AND HE TOLD US LITTLE ABOUT THE EVENT, OTHER THAN THE DREADFUL OIL WHICH BLINDED THEM AND THE BARNACLES ON THE HULL WHICH RIPPED THE SKIN ON THEIR LEGS. WHILST ON HOLIDAY IN MALTA A FEW YEARS AGO, WE MET A MAN WHOSE UNCLE HAD BEEN A COOK ON THE SHIP AND WAS ALSO A SURVIVOR. HIS UNCLE WAS IN HOSPITAL AT THE TIME AND THE NEPHEW OWNED A RESTAURANT ON THE SEA FRONT IN MARSAXLOKK. AFTER THE WAR, MY FATHER SPENT SEVERAL MONTHS IN VALLETTA, AS A DIVER, HELPING TO CLEAR GRAND HARBOUR. SADLY, HE DIED IN 1988 AT THE AGE OF 80. |

I am in posssesion of an original photograph of HMS Barham given to me by a good friend. It is of the entire starboard side taken in fine weather moored somewhere off Greece. My friend told me his brother served on the ship and each sailor was given one of these large photos. It is a magnificent view and I feel very proud to own it. |

My father Robert Honeyman Robertson(Able seaman P/SSX 16659) died aged 23 on Tuesday 25th November 1941 along with his shipmates when H.M.S. BARHAM sank. I knew very little about my father as I was only one year old when he died.I would like to get in touch with anyone who knew of him or relatives from Scotland from where he originated. His two sisters Mary and Josephine lived in Methil Brae,Methil,Fife.I would be extremely grateful for any information.I have one photograph of my Father which I am in the process of trying to forward for inclusion on the BARHAM website. |

ALBERT EDWARD FELLOWS |
Hi like many others who have left messages on this site I am hoping that someone will remember a relative. I have recently started researching my family tree and my nana and great auntie have told me about two of their cousins who died in WW2. ALBERT EDWARD FELLOWS was one of the ones who were tragicaly killed that night. I would love to know if anyone remembers him so that I can relay stories to my nana and auntie. I don't know much about his role on the ship but I think he was 21 when he was killed. If anyone remembers him please email me. |

Leonard Shiers |
I searched for HMS Barham whilst trying to locate records for my uncle Leonard Shiers, Stoker 1st Class who was lost with the ship. I was delighted to find this website, which enabled me to locate his War Graves Commission record, as I had been unsure of the spelling of his name. Although I never knew him personally, my mother spoke of him frequently and mourned his loss to the day she herself died in 1995. I have pictures of Uncle Len and would like to have this added to your photo gallery. He is pictured with another sailor, whose name is unknown to the family. Perhaps someone may recognise him? |

To whom this may concern: I was reading about sea battles during WWII and came across the story of the HMS Barham. It was a short but interesting story. I want to commend those of you who have put up this outstanding web page to the memory of those valiant men of the Barham. Your good work here will help keep the memory of the Barham alive forever.
