Robert Victor Henry Way |
My father Robert Victor Henry Way served as a Royal Marine gunner (6" turret) on the Barham but was transfered a month or so before that fateful day. My father who served from 1937 until 1946 always regarded the Barham as his best posting, and spoke with great fondness of the ship and its crew. He lost many friends on that day and the memory stayed with him until his death in 1978. I would just like to honour the brave men of the Barham on behalf of both my father and myself. |

Wilfred Edward Albert Powell |
A very impressive website. I am trying to confirm whether Able Seaman Wilfred Edward Albert Powell served on the Barham just before she sank - any information would be appreciated. |

Harry Dooling |
Delighted to find this site Sara. We live in a very small hamlet in Staffordshire, next to St Leonards Church. Right at the entrance gate, overlooking the Trent Valley, is the prominent and quite grand grave of Harry Dooling, Stoker 2nd Class, aged 18 when he died on the Barham, in November 1941. The church, although infrequently used, is visited by many people and with your permission I will put some information about Barham, from your site, in the Church. Regards, Chris Windley ( ex WEO, Royal Navy ) |

MY LATE FATHER, BOB MOUNCER, SERVED ON THE "BARHAM" AND WAS ALSO A SURVIVOR. IT WAS OBVIOUSLY A VERY TRAUMATIC AND EMOTIONAL TIME FOR ALL THE MEN AND HE TOLD US LITTLE ABOUT THE EVENT, OTHER THAN THE DREADFUL OIL WHICH BLINDED THEM AND THE BARNACLES ON THE HULL WHICH RIPPED THE SKIN ON THEIR LEGS. WHILST ON HOLIDAY IN MALTA A FEW YEARS AGO, WE MET A MAN WHOSE UNCLE HAD BEEN A COOK ON THE SHIP AND WAS ALSO A SURVIVOR. HIS UNCLE WAS IN HOSPITAL AT THE TIME AND THE NEPHEW OWNED A RESTAURANT ON THE SEA FRONT IN MARSAXLOKK. AFTER THE WAR, MY FATHER SPENT SEVERAL MONTHS IN VALLETTA, AS A DIVER, HELPING TO CLEAR GRAND HARBOUR. SADLY, HE DIED IN 1988 AT THE AGE OF 80. |
