H Crockart |
Whilst on holiday in Southsea (Nr.Portsmouth ) last year I discovered a magnificent war memorial dedicated to all the sailors who lost their lives on ships that sailed from Portsmouth during the war. My friend Douglas S Crockart lost his brother Able Seaman H.Crockart on that fateful day so I searched for the name and FOUND it. My friend Doug had no idea that the memorial was there and I took a photo which clearly showed his name. The Authorities were in the process of reburnishing the bronze plaques and re-gilding the names, so it should be now complete. If anyone who lost a relative on that ship must visit there if possible. From Memory there are over 18,000 names of sailors who perished and of course from other vessels involved in other actions Derek Pardoe |

I am working on an article entitled "Where was God?" for a religious magazine. I need to contact people who have been caught up in disasters such as the Barham disaster to find out how their faith helped them deal with what happened. I don't wish to intrude on anyone's privacy, but I am hoping some of you will be willing to answer a few email questions. If you can help me in any way, please let me know. Thanks, Charles Lewis charleslewis5@cox.net |

Whenever I see that awful film of Barham exploding, I think of all those brave, brave men who died that day. I trust that God keeps them all by Him. God Bless. Daff O'Neill (Ex-RN) |

This wonderful website is a tribute to those who lost their lives on HMS Barham so many years ago, and all those who served on her in World War II. My thanks go the hard work and perservance of my niece, Sara Wrigley, grand-daughter of Surgeon Commander E.R.Sorley, RN in building the website in memory of the ship's company which will stand for all time, and bringing the Guest Book back to life. My grandfather was a stoker on H.M.S Barham. He was a lucky survivor but he suffered amnesia and depression after arriving in Alexandria. This was due to being unable to save two of his friends from drowning. Is there a list of the ships company so that i may see his name as he has been dead for many years now. Also can i join the association. |
