Martin Keogh |
My uncle was MARTIN KEOGH, Ordnance Artificer, 3rd class P/MX 56577 who died on the Barham when she was hit on 27th May 1941 by enemy aircraft. My mother (Martin's sister) is still alive and told me of his serving on the ship, which prompted my interest to find out more. If any survivors recall him, or even better could point him out on any of the website photos I would be grateful for any info you might have. God bless all those who lost their lives on the Barham. |

Fred Wills |
My grandad, Fred Wills was a survivor of the Barham. Sadly he died in 1992, but lived life to the full, regaling stories of his times in the navy and on the Barham |

What can I do to help in keeping the memory of the ship alive? I attended the memorial service in 1979 and was privileged to assist in laying the wreath. |

I am a graduate student at the University of New Orleans and an employee at the LSU Health Sciences Center in the same city. The LSU School of Medicine will celebrate its 75th Anniversary next year, and we are writing a book to commemorate the occasion. My research has turned my attention to the 64th General Hospital, which, as you might well know, operated in the Mediterranean theater of operations during 1943 and 1944. The Hospital was apparently attached to Fifth Army, and was stationed first in Tunisia, North Africa, and, later, at Maddaloni (Caserta) and Leghorn (Livorno), Italy, as the Fifth moved up the Italian peninsula. The 64th was made up of many members from Louisiana, several of whom studied or worked at the LSU Medical School. One of the memoirs on your website mentions the 64th, and I was wondering how many of your members might remember passing through or being treated at this hospital. Any information that you could give me would be really important to the project, and would, of course, carry all the recognition that scholarly practice mandates. |
