FRANK BYATT |
I came across your site whilst searching for information on HMS Barham and would like to add my thanks for your fine efforts. Thank you also for adding the picture that I sent of my Great Uncle, Able Seaman FRANK BYATT [P/JX 224459], to the site. If anyone has any information or photos of Frank, I would be very pleased if they could contact me. Thank you once again. David Ravenscroft |

This is very interesting as my Grandfather helped build this ship at John Brown's Cydebank along with HMS Hood and others. They ran saw mills for the oak decking. Died 1973. |

Ive added a new field to the guestbook - 'Crew names'. There seems to be a lot of posts from relatives of crew members looking for information. This new field seems a good way of posting a summary for quick browsing. What do you think? |

John Oliver Law |
I have just discovered your web site!! My father John Oliver Law was killed when the Barham was sunk in 1941. My mother Nellie Law is now 94 and at present still going strong. I was 3 at the time of my father death, therefore have no recolation of him at all, only what my mum can remember and now at 94 her memory is becoming dim!! As far as I know dad was serving as Chief Petty Officer/ Master at Arms at the time. It would be nice to know of anybody that knew him persoally, or if you have any further information what ever |

Many congratulations and thanks to Andrew Gillespie - GrandNephew of a survivor - who has worked very hard to design and re-launch our new look site. (Feb 2006) Hopefully everyone will agree it now has a much more professional feel and as Andrew says, will now be easier to keep updated. Andrew responded to my request, posted on the site, for volunteers, last December and has done a brilliant job and come up with many new ideas. All comments, suggestions and feedback general on the new look Barham website are welcome and will be forwarded to Andrew. |

I have posted one of my late father Melvin's videos to Google showing the end of the Barham. video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7009975008653689943 My uncle's brother died in the explosion but my father survived. With so many plates of steel launched into the air it is a wonder anybody survived. My respects to the members of the crew who post here. |

I am ex R.N.Stoker. Currently secretary of Crosby R.N.A. Merseyside. Recently i recived a request from a family in Dundee, they were looking for the wherabouts of their brother who was serving in Barham in Dec 1939 when she topedoed north of the Hebridies. I found out he was burried in Bootle cemetary along with five other shipmates, I need to know why he was burried in Bootle as the ship came to Birknehead for repairs, so why not Birkenhead of Liverpool. I live close to Bootle cemetary so i have been able to take photographs for the family, however they would like to know how or why he was burried there. Was he killed in the action?? of badly injured and died later in a Liverpool hospital?? If anyone can shed any light on this matter the family would be so pleased, i am hoping to get them down to Botle this year with our Navy Asociation in attendance, anyone who is interested please email me. Many thanks in anticipation. |

Sidney Petherbridge |
To President of the Association, It was with heavy heart that I received word of the passing of my cousin Sidney Petherbridge, a member and officer of your association this past Monday. I would like you to know the pride and love he had for your association, The Queen, England and in particular his ship mates who survived with him and for those who were lost on November 25, 1941. I can state this with certainty and from a totally un-biased point of view. You see I am not only SidneyÆs cousin, but I am his American cousin. I had the honor and pleasure of talking with him every month over the last number of years and visited with him in England three times over the same period.. Our conversations would cover family matters, but would always come back to The Barham, the Association and his mates. You were all very special to this man. In his minds eye, you became family and he took great pride in letting people know that (as we say here in the States) his mate and he were a special band of brothers who when the time came stood tall for God, King and Country. He held a great sorrow for those who were lost and often said why me? I am sure Sidney would never have thought I would be writing this e-mail. Frankly neither did I. I was thinking of Sidney and I was drawn to the Barham web site and it became evident that I had to let you know just how special you all were to this man. Sidney will be laid to rest on January 3, 2006 in Winchester. As I said, I just had to let you know. Sincerely yours, Robert C. Webb Norton, Ohio |

To all who served and fought in her I say, "Thank You and Well Done". She was a proud ship and went the way every fine warship should go...in battle defending her homeland and its people. Gods speed HMS BARHAM! |
