JWC Hall |

I’m trying to find out where I can obtain an answer to a question regarding the crew of the Barham.
My elderly mother has just asked me if I can find any information out on whether or not the lost crew members were issued a posthumous war medal.
Her brother John Hall (JWC Hall) a Marine was lost during the sinking and she often talks about him, I think he was also involved with the Band.
I’ve had a quick look on the internet but can find no reference to her question, and I’m hoping somebody may have the answer.

Charles S Chapman - Marine |
My grandfather Charles Chapman was a marine and was in the ships hospital when the ship went down. He was a trumpet player in the ships band. I attended the memorial service on 24/11/18. |

I travelled from the Welsh borders to attend the final service for the crew of HMS Barham last month. I was joined by Uncle Bills ‘S great nieces from Norfolk and London and their husbands. I am so glad we could be there for the final act of remembrance to honour not just my Uncle but all those crew on Arkham who died. |

Stanley Herbert Jones |
Stanley Herbert Jones was my grandfather, sadly lost in the sinking. I attended the service on Saturday. It was great to see so many people. I had attended once before in 1991 with my parents. Thank you Sara. |

So many thanks to the very many people who attended the final servce of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey yesterday, Sat 24th Nov 2018. It was wonderful to see so many people - a record attendance I think - and all the photographs and documents they had brought with them. We were also honoured to welcome a representive from the Royal Navy to attend the Service in the shape of Captain John Voyce R.N. I thought afterwards we should have provided an actual physical Guestbook for people to sign as it would have been a lovely thing. Many people had travelled a very considerable distance to attend and this was so much appreciated. I am currently writing a short report with accompanying photographs of the event which I will ask our webmaster, Andrew, to post under the "Latest News" section of the website. In the meantime, as there was not a physical Guestbook could I ask anyone who attended yesterday and who might be looking in, to post a message in the online Guestbook recording their presence at the event so we can get as full a list of the names of the attendees as possible? I was sorry not to get round and talk to more people and find out their stories and see photographs. If anyone did not get a chance to show photographs or would like any other document they brought to the service to be included on the website, please do email me, Sara Wrigley, at whitelodge@clara.co.uk. I will be glad to hear from you. |

William Hughes |
Attended the Memorial Service today for the first timeat Westminster Abbey. A truely moving event in memory of my grandad Able Seaman William Hughes who lost his life on the HMS Barham. It was so good to see his name in the book stored at Westminister Abbey. Thank you all for arranging the event. |

Leslie Derby Garrett |
My great Uncle Leslie Garrett died on HMS Barham. My mum recently told me that his brother John witnessed the sinking as he was on board one of the other ships in the convoy. He never really recovered and suffered with terrible nerves for the rest of his life as a consequence. |
