David Raymond Jones |
In memory of David Raymond Jones a Marine died 25 Nov 1941 on HMS Barham. I see the CWGC have got the year wrong, they have 1944 and not 1941 |

The Times Online have put 200 years of the newspaper online which is a boon to history and family researchers. The sinking is reported on 28-JAN-1941 and there is a delayed report from Reuters correspondent Massy Anderson who was himself killed by torpedo on 14-DEC-1941. Commander Sorley\'s obituary appears on 03-FEB-1942 and the almost full casualty list was published on 23-FEB-1942. Unfortunately this edition is not yet viewable. My grandparents bought a copy and I notice that regrettably the names of the Maltese casualties were not published alongside their shipmates. |

Lt Harry Hunter OBE |
Eng Lt Harry Hunter (OBE Military) served on HMS Barham during the Battle of Jutland. I have fortunately inherited his records of the Battle, life onboard ship, Liverpool drydock and his official (engineers) report of torpedo damage sustained - together with a tompian. Great website. |

Thomas Valentine was my Irish uncle who died on HMS Barham. Does anyone remember him at all? Would love to hear from anyone who does |

John McHugh |
Thank you to everyone concerned with this Web-Site. You have helped fill in some of the blanks of grandad McHugh\'s memories. He wouldn\'t recall any war stories in front of his wife or his daughter(my mother)but even though I was very young he would tell me this about his ship:- The \'\'Brumm\'\'. He was in the forward turret. 3 torpedoes hit. Magazine went up. Had to have oil pumped out of his stomach/lungs.
Thanks again |
