Fred Piercy |
Hi, My father Fred Piercy is still alive and was asking if anyone remembers or knows of his pal Jack Uniacke.Apparently Jack leapt into a turret after it had been bombed and put out a cordite fire(which could have flashed to the magazine) with an extinguisher, they all thought he was an unsung hero at the time.Jack left the ship shortly before the sinking. |

Fellows, Albert |
Albert was the brother of my father Raymond. I have seen pictures of Albert in his uniform.
The only recollection I have of Albert being mentioned was by my Grandmother saying that as she waved goodbye to Albert she told the rest of her children "We won't be seeing our Albert again". She had a premonition that the ship would explode. I guess in those times you would probably have such an outlook on life.
She lost 5 of her 10 children to a combination of the war and childhood diseases so prevalent in the harsh polluted environment of of the industrial North East (Stockton) that existed back then.
Albert's Father survived being gassed in the first world war when he was in the Cavalry.
Thanks for letting me a little bit more about Uncle Albert and how he died.

Ronald Purkiss |
Just found this site. I had two cousins (brothers)serving on battleships in WWII. Ronald Purkiss went down on HMS Barham. The parents begged his brother B.Purkiss to transfer out of destroyers. He did and served on HMS Truculent (submarine) and was lost when she went down in 1950 in the Thames estuary. |

Henry Curtis |
HI I\'m the great niece of Henry Curtis, he was married to my grandmothers sister, Alana Curtis nee Young. She passed away aged 90years. She always told us the story of our uncle Henry and how he lost his life on the Barham, how he was last seen on top deck ready to evacuate the ship when he noticed his shipmate and close friend had not got to the top deck as he did, on telling his other ship mate to get over board he went back for his friend and he and his friend never made it off the ship. She was always proud of the fact he tried to save a friend but found it sad he was not there to see there son Kenneth grow up, he was only 3 years when his father died. She never remarried but always had close friends and family.I don\'t don\'t have any photos of him but for the record he lived in Portsmouth and was 6ft slim tall sandy hair and had a very good laugh also very gentle man. Regards Marsha |
