Fred Parkin |
It is with great sadness that I have to report the death of Fred Parkin aged 89 years of age. Fred served on HMS Barham as a stoker prior to its sinking. He told many tales of his time in the Royal Navy. He only recently received his Service Medals, they were looked at but never removed from the cellopahne wrappers. He will be sorely missed. There are some unofficial photographs of HMS Barham if you would like copies. Philip Corcoran (Nephew) |

My father told me about the sinking of HMS Barham at the age of 8. I am now 58, and it was only last year that I searched for the footage of the Barham. Untill then, I never knew that such a film existed.I am one of 5 children, and many grandchildren, who would not have seen life, if the Valiant had been hit. My father told us children, that the Valiant normally took the lead, but on that fatfull day, the Barham was in the lead. I look at the film footage on a regular basis, and have shown my four children, and they have shown their children, of the sacrifice that was made in both wars. God rest their young souls, my father has long gone, but his stories still linger, along with my uncles treatment that he recieved at the hands of the Japs, when he was on the Prince of Wales, and he eventually died on the Burma railway! |

I have just updated file on the above named crew member. I came across his name on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website. He is not sadly the person I am looking for but have posted his details to help anyone in the future who is looking for information. I hope this was allowed and that I have not broken confidentiality rules. I have also found details of my great-uncle John(Jackie) Adams of Gateshead who also died on the Barham. This website was my starting point so thank you all so much. |

I am trying to trace my grandfather - an australian - not sure if this name is correct spelling - could it be Barrett as I have been told. Also my father\'s uncle Jackie Adams from Gateshead was onboard and is in the list of those lost. I would be grateful for any information. |
