Carol Donnelly nee Adams from Lincoln, England said... | 03/09/2009 |
Richard Adams |
I am the daughter of Richard Adams, a survivor of HMS Barham. I have been researching my family tree and am busy adding dates to timelines for various members of my family.
My father served in the Royal Navy from being a boy entrant, he was born in 1924, and although sent down to Cornwall to stay with relatives to be away from London, he entered boy service very early on in WW11.
He used to mention Barham many times as he always felt that someone was looking down on him and keeping him safe - he was torpedoed a number of times from various ships he served on. He was also in submarines from HMS Dolphin but I do not know his exact service history. He was in contact with the Barham Association and I know he met with a gentleman from Canada but unfortunately I do not have any definitive information. If anyone remembers Richard Adams or Dick as he was known then please get in touch with me.
Sadly Dad died in May 1991 just before home computers were the norm. He spent many of his last years writing of his experiences but not of his war years.
My grandmother always considered herself very lucky. She had four sons in four different theatres of war any they all came home. A situation not enjoyed my many people.
Kind regards,
Carol |

I am a niece of Ronald Gathercole but only just came across a lovely memorial in the church of St Michaels, Playden, East Sussex, A window in the church has an etching of the Barham with the name detailed below it. It is in memory of William Lefebvre Brodrick who died in 1941 but I am unable to find his name on the list of deceased crewmen. |

The above Able seaman was my fathers brother and I never met him. I wonder if any serving member of HMS Barnham can remeber him and tell me about him?

Hi, does anyone know of an F Smith from 1925 who was a member of the HMS Barham \'wall team\'? A relative of mine found an item (maybe 30 years ago+) with an inscription. Any info appreciated. Thanks.
