On behalf of myself and my Grandmother I would like to thank you for the information found on this site. My grandmother has always been obsessed with her uncle and the HMS Barham. May he rest in piece.... |

Bernard Carver |
I came across the HMS Barham site and wanted to let you know my late grandfather Bernard Nash Carver served as chaplain on the Barham in the Med during 1928-30. I grew up looking at pictures of Barham on the corridor walls of Bernard's bungalow in Somerset. They are now in the archives at Dorset County Council in Dorchester.
Bernard's first ship was the HMS Duke of Edinburgh which he joined in 1916. His last posting was as chaplain to the Royal Naval Hospital in Chatham 1938-45. He helped comfort many of the wounded survivors of the evacuation from Dunkirk in 1940 and was appointed as a Chaplain to the King in recognition of his work at that difficult time.
When he left the navy Bernanrd was presented with a silver napkin ring engraved with all the ships, hospitals and establishments in which he worked between 1916 and 1945. I have it next to my PC on my desk. He died in 1985 aged 96. |

William Buick |
I am the son of Kathleen Brenda Buick who died in 1971, who was the sister of William Buick, who was therefore my uncle. I know little about him but would welcome any contact from anybody who could tell me anything about his life. |

Very interesting. My father Russell Grenfell was in the Navy in WWI and was friendly with the Commanding Officer of the Barham. And his wife Connie Cooke was my godmother. |

Stephen Godley |
Hi All. I have searched this wonderful site on a number of occasions trying to find information on my Grandad Stephen Godley.I understand he was on the Barham on his way home on leave and was one of the lucky ones. The only photo we have of him in uniform is the first official one. Can anyone shed light on photo 29 in Groups as to who the crew members are? I would also dearly love to get in touch with Archie Ross the gentleman mentioned in the latest newsletter as he was a stoker 1st class, the same as my grandad. If anyone can help please get in touch.
I would just like to say a big thank you to the site organisers for putting so much time and effort into it. I am sure that the whole crew would be proud of you. |
