Hugh Salmon |
What a wonderful service it was at Westminster Abbey yesterday. Very poignant, particularly for my uncle Brigadier HLB Salmon who lost his brother (my namesake) on the Barham and was the last of the family to see him alive when the ship left Glasgow. Many thanks to all at the Abbey and the Association for all your efforts and for such a moving and wonderful occasion. There were ten of us, all for the first time, and very proud and honoured to be there. Many thanks to all. |

Many of my family attended the very poignant service at Westminster Abbey yesterday. We sat behind the grandchildren of the Captain. On returning home, we found a letter from Constance Cooke to Midshipman Hugh Salmon\'s grandfather thanking her for a donation for the chalice. Please get in touch if you would like a copy. |

I believe Herbert was known as George (or Harry) and I understand he was the youngest of the crew members. He was my Mum\'s cousin and she spoke of him quite often when I was a child. I am thinking of all those who were lost, the survivors and families affected by the sinking of HMS Barham on this 70th Anniversary. |

NOv 25 I am thinking about the suviors of the Barham and how terriable it must have been for them on this day 70 years ago. My father William Gidley was one those those brave men. I was fortunate enough to have my Dad till he was 82. We often talked about the sinking and we have a video of it. Its just amazing that anyone one survied. I went to one reunion the 49 and my Husband John Groot went to the 50th when my father presented the Association with The Barham Standard my Dad was so very proud to have been able to do that. So I will be thinking of my father and all the brave men on the Barham today. REST IN PEACE BARHAM |

My grandad served as petty officer on board HMS Barham and was a survivor. He died in 1999 leaving 3 sons and his wife Pat who died earlier this year. My brother ,husband and myself will attend the service on Saturday (our first and also the last) to remember him and his ship mates.I would be grateful for any photos or tales of his navy life - thank you. |

I am so sorry I, will be unable to attend. I never Knew my uncle (mum\'s brother)but I was named after him. My mum passed away on remembrance day last year, the last thing she asked of me was to buy a poppy so she could remember Norman.will be thinking of HMS Barham on saturday. |

Arthur (Jack) Gammon |
My father, Jack Gammon was one of the lucky survivors of the sinking of HMS Barham. He often spoke of his fellow crew members who perished and how he managed to escape from below decks, crawl over the sides of the stricken vessel and was initially sucked down with the the boat, only to be blown clear when the magazine exploded. He subsequently died of emphysema in 1994, caused through swallowing the oil, whilst he was waiting to be picked up. I\'ll be thinking of him and his crew mates at 4:25 on the 25 November and on the 26 November. |
