Have just found this superb website heralding HMS Barham and her crew. My grandad was a P.O. Stoker when the ship was lost. Such a feeling of pride knowing that the crews lives were held in such high esteem. May God Bless them and their families forever. |

Hi just spotted website just to let you know that my Grandfather was on HMS Barham at the battle of Jutland WW1 his name was Fred Peacock from County Durham and being a coal miner he was put on as a stoker on board. I unfortunately did not get enough stories from him while he was alive but he did tell me they all had a lot of daily rum (by comparison to what we drink today presumably for courage and moral) and some tobacco ration.
Regards Steve Charlish

Jim Pratt Was a C.P.O in the Naffi on board the Barham when it was sunk.. His brother Thomas (teddy) was lost in the sinking at the tender age of 18.. Jim is still alive but is now rather frail.. He is now 94. My young grandaughter age 10 is now interested in the story and her school will be doing a project on it.. so the memories live on. For all those brave souls who sacrificed so much for us.. |

I have just been sent a small Handkerchief with a motif of HMS Barham (see attachment) that a cousin found in a charity shop. My father was a Royal Marine on HMS Barham from about May 1938 until August 1940 when he joined HMS King George V. Is this a genuine HMS Barham memento? The lilac colour seems strange to me and the machine emboidery is not of the best quality. The materiel may be of silk but not sure. What can you tell me about it?

Furthermore to my uncle Richard Frederick Gobby i knew him as my uncle dick who was a boy marine on the Barham at the age of 16 to 17 in the battle of Jutland not much older i gather than the boy Cornwell my uncle was also born in the east end in Bethnal Green. But how about this for a strange coinsidence spooky really he was cremated at Barham crematorium near Canterbury in 1984 even the clergy at the chapel in the crematorium commented on this .He only moved there from the Chase Clapham under protest as my auntie had relations in Tankerton Kent |
