In 1975 I purchased an antique wooden model of the HMS Barham that was obviously made by a member of the crew in the late 1930s, because it shows the ship prior to the final modifications made just before the start of the war. The model is very detailed and about 77 cm long. If anyone might be interested in purchasing such an antique ship model, please contact me for detailed photos [just substitute an asterisk for the [at] in my e-mail address; I don't want it to get harvested by spammers.] I live in Germany, but the model is located in the UK. |

Wilfred Cottingham (aka Bill) |
WILFRED COTTINGHAM. My great great Grandmother Ann's brother, Wilfred Cottingham, born 1904, was a senior torpedoman aboard the HMS Barham. He rejoined HMS Barham for the second time, from 19th May 1939 til its sinking. Wilfred was nicknamed Bill. He was from Lincoln but lived in Portsmouth. |

Frank Child |
My grandfather Frank Child survived the sinking of the HMS Barham. Grandad never spoke much about his experience, other than saying that he came up from the explosion covered in oil and tasting oil in his mouth. He recovered in Durban SA , but for many months, he was missing, believed dead by his family. Other friends of his from his same street didn’t survive the explosion. Grandad used to travel up to London for the Barham reunions. When I saw the newspaper cuttings of the explosion, I couldn't believe he had survived Sue Alexander |

JWC Hall |
I’m trying to find out where I can obtain an answer to a question regarding the crew of the Barham.
My elderly mother has just asked me if I can find any information out on whether or not the lost crew members were issued a posthumous war medal.
Her brother John Hall (JWC Hall) a Marine was lost during the sinking and she often talks about him, I think he was also involved with the Band.
I’ve had a quick look on the internet but can find no reference to her question, and I’m hoping somebody may have the answer.

My grandfather Charles Chapman was a marine and was in the ships hospital when the ship went down. He was a trumpet player in the ships band. I attended the memorial service on 24/11/18. |

ABS William Harrison |
I travelled from the Welsh borders to attend the final service for the crew of HMS Barham last month. I was joined by Uncle Bills ‘S great nieces from Norfolk and London and their husbands. I am so glad we could be there for the final act of remembrance to honour not just my Uncle but all those crew on Arkham who died. |
